Pomegranate Margaritas?
On our latest venture to Longhorn Steakhouse I partook in one of their new drinks - the Pomegranate Margarita. I had heard “good things” about this drink, but commonly the alcohol-fruit ratio is often killed by the bartender. (more…)

Cheese Whiz again
My previous commentary (actually, complaints) about this non-food has backfired. (more…)

The Starbucks Tease
Okay, I’ll admit it - I have an affinity for Starbucks’ lattes and green tea frappachinos. So much that I keep stopping by our local Target. (more…)

The Kitchen Idiot - Move No 2
From time to time, I am the kitchen idiot… And I’m living proof that you really can burn water. (more…)

Last Minute Prep for the Superbowl
Thankfully we’re not having a Superbowl party tomorrow. As it is I have to tune out my husband’s cheering and jeering - to put it politely - during games. Then again, I could just go to a movie… (more…)

Peanut Butter & Cheese Whiz?
Right now there’s a jar of Cheese Whiz in the fridge. I didn’t buy it - my sister-in-law gave it to my husband at Christmas. He loves the stuff, and I think its smell alone is enough to make one heave. (more…)

Buh-Bye Arby’s
They may have tasty sandwiches and sides, but it’s so difficult to justify the price. Sans a coupon or gift card, I don’t see myself venturing through Arby’s again any time soon. (more…)

Saturday’s Late Afternoon Dinner
Whenever a friend stops by, it’s mealtime. It doesn’t matter if it’s 10 a.m., 3 p.m. or the wee hours of the night. My friend’s know that if they stop by this house, they need to show up hungry. (more…)

Back to Basics Dinner - Err, Breakfast
I often get the craving for breakfast food for dinner. It’s usually German pancakes (a friend of mine taught me how to make this tasty eat). Sometimes it’s grease-ridden bacon and eggs. (more…)

Now that some friends have made some comments that will leave others guessing, I guess it’s time I post the bad with the good, admitting that there are times I’m oblivious to logic. From time to time, I am the kitchen idiot… (more…)

Silicone Bakeware - use it selectively
Vying to buy kitchen gifts for me I might not have, my sister-in-law has bought me various pieces of silicone bakeware over the past few years. Unlike others, always wanting to try the latest and greatest, silicone wasn’t even that intriguing to me. I’ve found that you have to be selective in what you bake in silicone. Very selective. (more…)

Trying to Salvage the Look of My Board
I buy most of my veggies and fruit in bulk, and that goes for tomatoes. With the Florida heat, I often have to store these babies in the crisper, but cooler days tricked me into leaving them out, thus staining my beautiful, golden brown cutting board. (more…)

Jerry’s Famous - Miami - Not So Much a Treat
Whenever I visit LA, I have to stop at Jerry’s Famous Deli. It is, by far, the best deli I’ve been to, and just thinking about the brisket sandwich makes my mouth water. Last night, with my new GPS unit in tow, we ventured to the Miami location. We were sadly disappointed. (more…)

Only a Touch of Brownness Ringing New Year
Last night brought just five of us into our living room. We had some no-shows, no-calls, and for a moment I was irritated about all the additional food and drink we’d just bought to accomodate a larger group. (more…)

My Guest List Just Doubled
When we hollered out to folks to come on over for New Year’s Eve, we told them to feel free to bring along some friends. I also asked for a two-day notice of an increased head count. (more…)

Speaking of Brown
His name is Brown. Alton Brown. And he continously breathes life into the food that I prepare.
