In a hurry? Frost the plate...
My favorite cake is chocolate, and the frosting has got to be peanut butter. When you’re running against the wire, though, frosting can be a messy, lengthy task.
So why not be creative and simply frost the plate? If you have a moist top to your cake, skip the wiring and frosting and let the cake speak for itself. For layered cakes, say white and strawberry, frost the plate and top the cake with the strawberry glaze (or even fresh berries). It’s less mess, and your guests can still get that great frosting taste with every bite.
And because I need to come up with more reasons why I use this technique when I get lazy (opposed to other times when I do it for plating purposes), frosting the bottom makes it easier for the eater to eat less frosting, opposed to them scraping the frosting off the top of the cake, making their own little mess.
Note: Peanut Butter not only goes great with chocolate, it makes the frosting a nice, light golden brown.
